Almond Date Bars

Valentine's Day is right behind Halloween on the unhealthy holiday list. This year, whether you're celebrating with friends, family, or that special someone, treat your loved ones to something equally delicious that won't lead to a leaden stomach. This healthy recipe has you covered and they're far more original than cliché box of chocolate and red wine. You can make these simple energy bars with only two ingredients (nuts and dates) but feel free to doctor them with chocolate chips, shredded coconut and other goodies as you like.
This simple dish boasts extra health benefits thanks to tahini! Tahini gives butternut squash a delicate nutty flavor, and a variety of nutrition benefits.Tahini is a thick paste made from toasted sesame seeds that are ground and mixed with a high quality olive oil, such as extra virgin olive oil. The resulting spread can taste nutty or bitter, depending upon the processing used. You can make your own tahini or purchase it in well stocked grocery stores or Middle Eastern specialty stores. This ground sesame paste is agreat source of calcium and packs more protein than most nuts!

Warming Spiced Pear Smoothie

Sip on this smoothie for a sweet, healthy power-up! This smoothie also includes one of my favorite milk alternatives, Brazil nut milk. Brazil nuts contain healthy fats and selenium, a trace mineral essential to immune and thyroid function. Healthy and delicious!

Amazingly Good for you Eggnog

For some of us, the holiday season means it’s time to break out the eggnog. Combining yolks, cream, unhealthy amounts of sugar, and possibly alcohol, I wouldn’t exactly call traditional eggnog a heart attack in a cup, but I would say that it’s definitely going to wreak havoc with your waistline and your blood sugar.

Shrimp a la Mediterrane

Shrimp is an excellent carbohydrate-free, low calorie protein. One of its most desirable benefits is high omega-3 and omega-6 fat content, which is important for cardiovascular and nervous system health.  This sea protein is packed full of many vitamins and minerals including the cancer reducing mineral selenium. Selenium helps protect against the damaging effects of free radicals and boosts the immune system preventing cancer tumour growth.  You don't need to compromise good health to enjoy good food this holiday season!

Crazy Good For You Coconut Chocolate Bark

This homemade chocolate is made with just a few essential ingredients - virgin coconut oil, cocoa or cacao powder, and pure maple syrup. (Feel free to use whichever liquid sweetener you prefer). The virgin coconut oil replaces the cocoa butter found in traditional chocolate so while it needs to be kept in the freezer, it’s a great way to sneak some coconut oil into your day. You can also use any toppings you'd like - dried fruit, nuts, and seeds all work lovely. It melts much faster than regular chocolate, so be sure to keep it chilled until ready to…
You’ll appreciate this refreshing, sweet-tart salad from Andrew Weil, author of the new cookbook "Fast Food, Good Food". The different colours and textures make it a real eye-catcher. The dressing, which pairs orange juice and zest with a dash of cinnamon, softens the raw Tuscan kale without wilting it- so you can toss it ahead of time.

Asparagus & Salmon Spring Rolls

These spring rolls are filled with smoked salmon, tender-crisp asparagus and plenty of fresh herbs. Spring rolls look impressive when you put them out for a party, but they are actually easy to make. To simplify the process, lay out all the ingredients you need to make the rolls near your work surface before you begin.

Sweet Potato and Lentil Soup

Compared to other types of dried beans, lentils are relatively quick and easy to prepare. They readily absorb a variety of wonderful flavors from other foods and seasonings, are high in nutritional value and are available throughout the year. They best part is that they contain tons of fiber with a half cup of cooked lentils coming in at around 8 grams. This soup is a little spicy, elegant enough for a dinner party, super cheap to make and very tasty... Don't be put off by the lentils - trust me you won't know they are there (and secretly they…
